Hundreds of families flocked to the Friends of Hylands Park bank holiday funday and dog show in Hornchurch at the weekend.

This was the second event that the group have organised, and it was a huge success according to organiser Del Ganly.

The glorious sunshine kept the rain at bay throughout the afternoon, and the Havering Classic Car Club were out in force with 20 different vehicles from across the decades.

In the funday area, children were bouncing around having fun, and the Wellgate Community Farm from Collier Row provided lots of animals for a nice calming influence.

Pets and their owners took part in the Woofs and Walkies dog show.

Each class was well supported with 30 dogs in the Most Handsome Dog category and 28 in the Prettiest Bitch.

The overall winner of Best in Show, was a puppy Chow called Tyson, and his owner Manish was over the moon.

Graeme Turner, the organiser of the Dog Show, said: “It was even better than last year’s show, and we were very lucky with the weather.

“Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and the winning owners went away with smiles on their faces.

“Here’s looking forward to next year. A big thank you to all those who attended, making it so successful.”

Del Ganly told the Recorder: “Thanks to all who made it a fantastic day, especially to our volunteers and friends who gave so much effort in helping out, and for Hornchurch Fire Station letting the kids have a good old climb around and offering Fire Safety advice to all.

“The Friends group funded this great day, and the money raised is used for more events through the summer holidays, and also goes toward the various projects in Hylands Park.

“The last Friends group was very successful, and raised over £30,000 to install the outdoor gym in the park.”
