Romford Pictures: Hornchurch in Harmony at music festival

12:00 18 July 2014

The streets were alive with the sound of music as musicians, singers and performers took over a town centre.

Hornchurch in Harmony, an annual community festival, saw residents young and old celebrate the vibrant musical sounds of jazz, classical and pop while enjoying the sunshine.

The free event on Saturday was part of the Mayor of London’s Summer of High Streets celebrations and Havering Council’s Hornchurch Festival of Arts and Heritage.

Musical acts including jazz artists and blues and Celtic musicians performed around the town and outside several shops.

To finish the day, the Queen’s Theatre Community Choir performed songs from their upcoming community musical outside the Fatling and Firkin pub.

Cllr Robert Benham, cabinet member for environment, said: “This event was a great success, the high street was full of people enjoying the music, getting their faces painted and having fun.

“This is what shopping locally is all about. Events like this one offer shoppers an experience they can only get on the high street.”

The Mayor of London is investing in more than 50 high streets across the capital.
