Havering GCSEs 2014: Drapers’ Academy

16:03 21 August 2014

Drapers' Academy pupils Ruth Mensah, who gained 2A*s, 2As and 5Bs, and Grace Taylor who received 1 A*, 3 As and 5 Bs in their GCSEs.

Archant

After weeks of waiting, pupils were able to collect their GCSE results today from Drapers’ Academy.

The school announced earlier today 70 per cent of pupils achieved A* to C grades in maths, and 48pc in English.

But it was keen to underline the pupils’ “level of progress score, which records how a student is expected to progress between Year 7 and Year 11, with 74pc achieving three or more levels of progress in maths and 69pc in English.

In a statement, the school said: “The gap in the ‘level of progress score’ and the GCSE results for English reflects the challenge that low levels of literacy present to the community.”

“This is the reason that we are looking to play a greater role in primary education on Harold Hill, with the opening of Drapers’ Brookside Junior School.

“It is vital that children are better prepared at age 11 to take advantage of the opportunities that the academy can offer.”

The school also highlighted the outstanding individual achievements of pupils Ruth Mensah, gaining 2A*s, 2As and 5Bs, and Grace Taylor who received 1 A*, 3 As and 5 Bs.

And it said it had seen GCSE pass rates of 94pc in biology, 89pc in chemistry, 86pc in statistics and 84pc in physics.

The school’s first full year of students taking French GCSE achieved an 85pc pass rate.
