A generous nine-year-old is preparing to get on her bike as she continues to fundraise for her friend who was diagnosed with a terminal illness two years ago.

Deborah Awe, of South Ockendon, has been busy organising coin collections and fun days for the Brentwood children’s charity The Dream Factory and The Sick Children’s Trust.

She has already held a coin collection event this month at the Brentwood Sainsbury’s store and is planning to raise more at a sponsored bike ride in Mardyke Woodlands on August 2.

Deborah has also been coin collecting with family and friends at the Intu Lakeside Shopping Centre, Grays, and Lakeside Retail Park’s Asda store.

The young philanthropist, who felt the need to help other young people with life limiting illnesses, has raised more than £1,000 for charity.

Deborah said: “I hope many children and families would join in the fun while we all raise awareness and money for such a brilliant cause.”

The idea behind the bike ride is to inspire young people to get into cycling.

“People have been generous in every way and I can only thank everyone that has supported me all the way.”
