A man has been killed after he was hit by a train in Romford Station, British Transport Police has confirmed.

Trains are in a standstill in the area and will be “for the time being”, operators Greater Anglia has confirmed. All four lines have been closed.

The person was hit at just after 4.15pm by the 3.30pm service from Southend Victoria to Liverpool Street.

A BTP spokesman said: “The man was pronounced dead at the scene. We are currently working to identify him, and officers will assist in the compilation of a report for the coroner.”

The death is being treated as non-suspicious, the spokesman added.

The London Ambulance Service (LAS) attended the scene with two crews and a single responder alongside the Metropolitan Police.

“Sadly, one person was dead at the scene,” an LAS spokesman said.

British Transport Police are also at the station.
