A shop worker was assaulted after he challenged a customer who tried to pay with a fake banknote, police believe.

Police were called at 10.25am on May 26 to an off-licence on Hornchurch Road, Hornchurch, after the 33-year-old male victim was assaulted.

It is believed that an argument broke out after the suspect attempted to use counterfeit cash.

An ambulance took the victim to an east London hospital with facial injuries.

Officers have released a CCTV image of a man they wish to speak to in connection with the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the assault or who can identify the man should contact Havering CID on 01708 779 224 or call Crimestroppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
