A 15-year-old boy has been charged by police investigating an acid attack on a woman in Romford.

Tara, whose surname has not been released by police, is being treated at a specialist burns unit after she suffered substantial injuries to her face and upper body in the attack in Marshalls Road.

Last night police arrested a 15-year-old boy from Romford in connection with the incident.

He has today been charged with throwing corrosive fluid on a person with intent to do grievous bodily harm, contrary to Section 29 Offences Against the Person Act 1861.

The teenager is due to appear in custody at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

The attack happened on April 30 at around 9.20pm.

On Thursday Tara spoke for the first time after the attack.

She said: “I feel devastated and am coming to terms with the fact I might have to bear the scars of this cowardly attack for the rest of my life.”
