‘Dangerous’ drug crook locked up

Peter Jacovou, 31, a construction worker from Rollason Way, admitted the charges he faced and was imprisoned on Friday with his father Peter Jacovou (senior), 55, from Capstan Close, Chadwell Heath.

The older man pleaded guilty to allowing his house to be used for drug dealing and for possessing a Class B drug. He was jailed for 11 months.

They were part of a seven-man gang sentenced at Basildon Crown Court last Friday for a combined 29 years for drugs and firearms offences.

Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate carried out search warrants in east London between February and May this year as part of Operation Abacus. During the searches they found a weapon and five kilos of cocaine with a street value of £250,000.

Also sentenced was Richard Hassell, 30, from Kidman Close, Romford. He was imprisoned for five years and four months for conspiring to supply Class A drugs.

Kevin Gibbs, 30, a carpenter from Academy Fields Close, Romford, was jailed for three-and-a-half years for conspiring to supply a Class A drug.

Dean Hoskyn, 30, from Barking, was sentenced to two-and-a-half years for possessing a Class A drug with intent to supply.

Richard Wiltshire, 34, from Woodford Green, was sentenced to two years and four months for the supply of a Class A drug.

Mark Roberts, 34, of no fixed address, was jailed for five years and four months for the possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply. All pleaded guilty to the charges.

After the hearing, Senior investigating officer, Det Chief Insp Stuart Smith, said: “We have seen a number of high-end drug dealers taken out of circulation and put behind bars for a long time. This will not only do them the world of good as they contemplate their crimes, but will also improve the quality of life for residents living in east London and west Essex.

“This was a dangerous group when their drugs and weapons are taken into consideration.”
