A man who stole a jumper and a pair of hair straighteners, assaulted a police officer and racially abused two men has been jailed for 14 weeks and ordered to pay £145.
Paul Nichols, 26, of Pimpernel Way, Harold Hill, took the £45 jumper from a branch of JD Sports in Barking and Dagenham on July 3, and the straighteners from Superdrug in Farnham Road, Harold Hill, on August 27.
He also hurled racist abuse at Pascal Gordon in Farnham Road on August 3, along with threatening or insulting words intended to harass or cause alarm and distress.
On the same day and in the same road, he racially abused Sharavan Ganji.
Finally, on August 27, he assaulted Pc Robson with intent to resist or prevent his detention or apprehension for an offence.
Nichols pleaded guilty to all the offences, plus a charge of committing an offence while under a suspended sentence for battery.
As well as serving 14 weeks in prison, he must pay a £60 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
He was sentenced by Barkingside magistrates on September 19.
A 41-year-old man has been stabbed at an address in Harold Hill.
