Ward councillors Mike Le-Surf and Julie Morrissey used part of their council ward budget to install the bench at the entrance to St Thomas Church, in St Thomas Road.

Residents asked for it to provide a seating point for elderly people making their way from residential buildings in the area into the High Street for their shopping.

Cllr Le-Surf said: “In these difficult times, anything councillors can do to make our residents lives a little more easier has to be a good thing.

“This localised funding spent on behalf of residents is a good idea if used in a practical and positive way and I am delighted that my residents at St Thomas Court suggested this bench.”
