Council to take action against inconsiderate dog walkers

Havering Council will be taking action against inconsiderate dog walkers after seeing an advert in last week’s Romford Recorder.
An angry resident put up a sign in Orchard Close, Collier Row, which seemed to be offering a reward for information about the owner of the dog that fouled in his garden.
The council has since responded by sending enforcement officers to the road and writing to residents who live there.
Dog fouling was highlighted as one of the most important issues residents wanted addressed when the council carried out a survey last year, which led to the launch of the Cleaner Havering campaign.
Cllr Barry Tebbutt, cabinet member for environment, said: “Cleaning up after yourself and your animals is common sense, and it’s something that most of us do. But there’ll always be the odd few who refuse to think about others and will just do as they please.
“This type of inconsiderate behaviour won’t go unnoticed. We want members of the public to help us to help them. Report what you see and we’ll take action where we can.”
Dog owners caught offending will be issued with an £80 penalty charge notice.
Members of the public can report offences by visiting www.havering.gov.uk or calling 01708 432 563 and by providing as much information as possible, specifically the date and time of the offence.
