Could Hornchurch’s Stanley, 94, have grown Havering’s biggest rhubarb?

A man in his 90s has been left “chuffed” by the impressive size of his annual rhubarb crop this summer.
Stanley Linley, of Kenilworth Gardens, Hornchurch, has been growing rhubarb in his back garden for years, but has never seen his veg grow quite as big as they have this year.
But the 94-year-old didn’t think much of it until a friend, who is also a gardening enthusiast, came to visit him and was blown away by the size of his produce.
Mr Linley told the Recorder: “He took one look at my rhubarbs and said, ‘blimey Stanley, you’ve got to get in touch with the Recorder, these are the biggest I’ve ever seen.
“I’m chuffed with them I have to say, and they’re still growing now!”
Sadly Stanley’s rhubarb, which comes in at just over two feet tall, is well short of the UK record of 11 feet, but with the plants still growing, there’s always a chance.
