Nicole Cruse, 18, of Lynwood Drive, Collier Row, jumped at the chance of doing a sky dive for Bowel Cancer UK, when her dad was told he had the condition. She said: “I’ve always wanted to do a skydive, but I have finally found a proper reason to do so. I’m doing it for my dad.”

Her dad John Cruse, 62, has been sceptical at the thought of allowing Nicole to take the plunge but once he was given the diagnosis in September, he finally agreed for her to do it.

He said: “Like most dads I didn’t want her to do it but I love her and the reason why she did it.”

Nicole went to complete the almighty jump at Cambridge airfield and was given a lift when she heard she had already raised £2,200 for the charity, even before jumping out of the plane, thanks to college friends, her family, and members of her Gidea Park Lawn Tennis Club.

Head of Community & Events at Bowel Cancer UK, Dani Freedland, said: “Without people like Nicole doing amazing fundraising events like this, Bowel Cancer UK couldn’t continue to do the vital work it does to save lives and improve the quality of life for all those affected by bowel cancer”.

John had to have an operation in March to remove the cancer and he is now in recovery.

Nicole added: “It was a fantastic experience, and I was glad my dad was there to see me do it - it was very worthwhile.

“I hope I have encouraged other people to raise money for charities and I would do it again any day and I hope my dad was proud of me.”
