A barbecue, raffle and putting competition in Elm Park raised more than £500 for veterans and their families at the weekend.
Elm Park Royal British Legion members Barry Mugglestone, Stephanie Nunn and Kay Leiser ran a fun day in Barry’s back garden on Saturday to bag funds for the Poppy Appeal, which supports the families of wounded servicemen and women.
“Thanks must go to Elm Park Florist for once again supporting the Royal British Legion by supplying lovely flowers,” said branch chairman Barry.
“With flowers that had been grown by the branch chairman on sale and other games and competitions going on during the day a total of £558 was raised for the charity.
“The finale to the day was the annual men v ladies putting competition, which is always won by the gents – but this year the gentlemen came a gallant second to the ladies.
“I would like to say ‘thank-you’ to all the people who turned up and supported us on Saturday.”
Branch meetings are held on the second Wednesday in the month from 8pm (arrive for 7.30pm) at the legion in Maylands Avenue.
