Christmas dinner was served for 50 in Hornchurch this year at a special party held for elderly residents.
Cllr Pam Light and Susan Fey, of Age Concern Havering, organised the event at the charity’s HOPWA house venue in Inskip Drive.
About 35 elderly people who would have otherwise spent their Christmas alone enjoyed a two-course dinner, followed by carol singing and a festive sing-along.
Cllr Light said everybody had a “lovely time.”
“It was a smashing day. Everyone enjoyed the meal and there were no complaints.
“Without this party, these residents would have spent their Christmas Day on their own.”
Father Christmas was even on hand to give out gifts donated to the charity by Ford Retail.
Each attendee was given a bag containing three items, ranging from gloves and scarves to sweets and chocolate.
The Christmas dinner was cooked by volunteer chef Paul, who dished up a total of 50 meals to the hungry residents and volunteers.
“Susan and I wish to thank all the volunteers and the staff of Age Concerned Havering for all their help. Without them we would not have been able to give our guests such a good time,” said Cllr Light.
