The pupils from Years 3 and 4 at Broadford Primary School sang Winter Wonderland, Jingle Bell Rock, Silent Night and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.

The residents at Cottons Court sheltered housing, in Marks Road, Romford, gave them refreshments and a donation for the performance and

The food was cooked by parent governor of the school Mark Borrell and his brother, who were part of the team which served the Queen when she visitied Drapers Academy in October.

Headteacher Malcolm Drakes said: “We want to ensure that the children recognise they are part of a community. Not just a community in school, but part of a local community and a wider one within Havering. We want the children to have meaningful experiences of contributing to others and helping to make a difference.

“The children were all overwhelmed by the response from residents. They had no idea their singing would mean so much.”

Kirsty White, nine, who was one of the group taking part, said: “It felt really special to perform for an audience like this. Normally we just sing in school, this was much more exciting!”
