More than £13,000 was raised from a charity ball held in memory of a brave woman who lost her battle against cancer.

Hundreds of people turned out for the event at Orsett Hall in Grays on Friday January 18 as a tribute to Shelley Adams from Upminster.

Shelley’s husband, Dennis Adams said: “Shelley was a giver so it is nice for us to be helping people who are going through a similar situation that she did.

“She was an extremely lovely person and for us this is a big part of her legacy.”

The black tie event included raffles, music, a three course meal and also a number of guests from the world of boxing.

The ball was organised by Shelley’s family to mark her 41th birthday.

Charlie Adams, Shelley’s step son said: “She would have loved the ball.

“She was a very glamorous person and she loved to get dressed up.”

Dennis added: “She was always helping people and she would always try to make people feel good about themselves and the ball was a very positive and happy event.”

The mother of five, lost her battle against breast cancer last year after fighting for six years.

When she died, the family set up a trust fund in her name at the Royal Marsden Hospital, where she was treated.

Dennis said: “She was very positive and her journey was so amazing, she never stopped fighting even at the end.

“She was just so brave and we feel that she has also instilled this in to us so that we want to help other people.”

All the money raised from the event is set to go to her trust fund where it will be used to help cancer sufferers to buy new clothes so that they can boost their confidence and so that their families can spend a night in a hotel, instead of travelling home late at night.

Dennis said: “We were quit lucky that we were able to treat Shelley and buy new clothes for her to boost her confidence, but we know that not everyone is that fortunate so we want to help these people.”
