A rail campaigner has slammed Crossrail for dropping plans to include toilets on the service, after finding plans stating the facilities would be on board the service, which will run through Havering.

Richard Enever, rail officer of the Brentwood Bus and Rail Users’ Association, said: “We have obtained proposals going back 25 years showing toilets would be in the plan.

“We are totally angered by this – Brentwood to Heathrow and Maidenhead are not short journeys.”

A Crossrail spokesman said: “As Crossrail will be a high-frequency metro-style service, where the vast majority of journeys will be of a short duration, it is not intended that toilets will be provided on Crossrail trains.

“Of the 37 stations on the Crossrail route, passengers will have access to a toilet facility in 30 of them.”

Crossrail said that plans for the toilets were cancelled for a number of reasons – including that they would take up space equivalent to 600 passengers per hour.
