Brentwood Lib Dems have gained a new seat after winning the Shenfield by-election last night.

Liz Cohen won with 728 votes. She was closely followed by Conservative candidate Stephen May with 557 votes, David Watt for UKIP with 119 votes, and Richard Millwood for Labour with 31.

The turnout was 33.4 per cent.

The seat was vacated by Tory Cllr Lionel Lee in October after he stood down to care for his wife who is ill.
