A lorry driver died following a collision on the A12 in Brentwood last night.

It happened on the southbound carriageway just before Brook Street at about 4pm.

Officers said the lorry driver appeared to have lost control of the vehicle and struck the central reservation. No other vehicle was involved.

The driver, a man in his 50s from Wiltshire, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The southbound carriageway was closed while the 44-tonne lorry, laden with timber on its side, was recovered. The carriageway was reopened at 5.30am this morning.

Today officers and forensic collision investigators from Essex Police are continuing to determine the cause of the crash.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Essex Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01245 240590 or email collisionappeal@essex.pnn.police.uk
