A two-year-old boy is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a vehicle collided with pedestrians in Rainham earlier today.

Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are appealing for witnesses, or anyone with dash-cam footage, to come forward in connection with the collision in South End Road on Tuesday, April 24.

Two women were also injured.

Immediately following the collision members of the public assisted in detaining a suspect. Police are particularly keen to hear from those people.

Police were called shortly after 3.25pm. The London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade also attended.

The driver of the car, a dark blue Mercedes A180, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug driving. He remains in custody.

The two women, one aged 32 and the other 25, remain in hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
