Appeal for witnesses after fatal Rainham collision

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and information following a fatal collision this morning.

Officers were called at 9.53am to the A13 eastbound between Ferry Lane and New Roundabout, Rainham, to reports of a collision involving two vehicles.

London Ambulance Service, police, London’s Air Ambulance and London Fire Brigade all attended.

A man, believed to be in his mid-50s, who was in one of the cars, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are trying to trace and inform his next of kin.

Formal identification and a post-mortem examination will be completed in due course.

Two men, both aged 18, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

They are currently in custody at an east London police station.

The Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) part of the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command (RTPC) are leading the investigation.
