Swimming, climbing and leaping through fire were just some of the challenges that fundraisers had to face as they took on a gruelling obstacle course to raise money for charity.

Around 50 competitors took part in this year’s 7.5km Mud n’ Madness course at Stubbers Adventure Centre, Ockendon Road, Upminster, in aid of Saint Francis Hospice based in Havering-atte-Bower.

Business processing manager for DHL in Purfleet Andrea Burke, 48, from Romford, took part for the fourth time with her husband Ged and said this year’s course was the best ever.

She said: “This year they added more obstacles and fun activities such as canoeing and an inflatable water slide so it was very different.”

It is thanks to DHL UK Foundation’s match funding scheme as well that Andrea is hoping to have raised more than £900 for Saint Francis Hospice.
