People were told to avoid the area around a house fire that took 40 firefighters over an hour to get under control.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) was first called to Heigham Road in East Ham to reports of a house fire at around 2.45pm this afternoon (May 7).

In total, the brigade received 11 calls about the fire, and responded by sending six fire engines and 40 firefighters to the scene.

Half of the first floor of a two-storey terraced house was on fire, and the blaze was brought under control by 4.15pm.

There have been no reports of any injuries as a result of the fire. The cause of the blaze is now under investigation.

People were told to avoid the area while firefighters worked at the scene, and were warned that traffic would likely be impacted nearby.

Crews from East Ham, Leytonstone, Ilford, and surrounding fire stations all attended the scene.
