Boro without a win in their last nine league matches, including a 2-0 loss at Witham Town last weekend

Romford boss Paul Martin admits Heybridge Swifts must be looking forward to playing his out-of-form side in the Bostik North on Saturday.

Boro are without a win in their last nine league matches ahead of entertaining Swifts this weekend.

Martin admits that with his side in such bad form, any team would be licking their lips at the prospect of facing the Rookery Hill club.

But the Romford boss remains hopeful that Boro’s luck will change for the better sooner rather than later.

“When your form is as bad as ours has been in recent weeks, every team is looking forward to playing you,” he said.

“We’re still capable of beating anyone, but when your luck is down luck ours has been, then your luck is down.

“I get the feeling that if we spent £1m on lottery tickets right now, we’d be lucky to win even £5.

“All we need is just run result for our fortunes to changes and we’ll continue to take the rough with the smooth.”

Following last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at Witham Town, Martin hinted at wholesale changes to his Romford squad.

One area where he may look to bring in reinforcements is in attack, with Boro having netted just three goals in their last eight league games.

But with sides across all divisions looking for ways to add to their firepower, Martin admits it may not be so easy to bring in new forwards.

“It doesn’t matter if you have a forward at a club for a while or a short time, all you need is for them to take their chances,” he added.

“Forwards can blow hot and cold, but when we had Chinedu McKenzie, you knew you had someone to get the goals to make sure you would be OK.

“We have to find the next player who can get 20 goals a season for us, but without a budget, it gets harder every year to find them.”

It should not be all doom and gloom for Romford ahead of hosting high-flying Heybridge on Saturday.

Boro caused a surprise back in September when they beat Aveley 2-0 at home, which coincidentally was their last win, and Martin knows what his squad must do if they are to replicate that success.

“We won that day because we turned up mentally and we need to be in that frame of mind on Saturday. I don’t care how we win, just that we do,” he said.
