Local Elections: Residents’ Association wins all three in St Andrews - Ukip not happy with count

The Residents’ Association has taken the last ward of the night, St Andrews, moving to a total of 19 seats.

After 12 hours of counting, the final ward to be announced was won by John Mylod, Reg Whitney and John Wood, with 1,894, 1,572 and 1,906 votes each.

The ward was previously occupied by two RA members and one Conservative.

Ukip’s Julian Clark received 1,570 votes - just two behind Reg Whitney, and was not happy with the count.

After several recounts, he claimed the number of votes he received was different every time, and insisted it should have been recounted until a same total was reached twice.

“They should do another recount, but there’s nothing I can do,” he said.

The final figures are as follows:

Conservative Party - 22

Residents’ Association - 19

Ukip - 7

Independent Residents’ Group - 5

Labour - 1
