Local Elections: Residents’ Association hoping for majority win after holding Upminster

18:44 23 May 2014

The Residents’ Association is hoping for a majority win after comfortably retaining all three seats in Upminster.

Councillors Linda Hawthorn, Ron Ower, and Linda Van den Hende received 3,507, 3,447 and 3,204 votes respectively, and when asked whether he was hoping for a coalition council, Cllr Ower was more optimistic.

“We’re still hoping we might do it on our own,” he said. “We work hard all the time, and I think we have had the highest votes in Havering again.

“It’s nice to be back and we are looking forward to four harder years.”

He added that the two seats gained in Harold Wood were the “icing on the cake.”

The turnout in Upminster was 49.2 per cent.
