West Ham United 3 QPR 1

Last month, Blair Turgott was part of the Bradford City squad in the Capital One Cup Final at Wembley Stadium, this afternoon he was at the heart of the action for West Ham as they beat QPR in a friendly at Upton Park.

The 18-year-old returned to the Hammers after that Wembley clash and he seems to have come on leaps and bounds after scoring a magnificent hat-trick to sink a strong Rangers side.

The Hammers welcomed back long-term injury victim George McCartney to the starting line-up and he certainly impressed down the left, while James Tomkins, Matt Tatlor, Marouane Chamakh and Wellington Paulista all started the match.

But it was Turgott who was the star of the show.

He opened the scoring after just 12 minutes when he latched on to Kieran Bywater’s pass to smash the ball into the top corner and he doubled that lead just before the half hour with a delicate curling finish.

Adel Taarabt shot Rangers back into the game two minutes after the restart as he smashed in a free kick beyond West Ham’s trialist keeper, but the QPR hopes were soon dashed again.

On 52 minutes Turgott cut inside on to his left foot before firing another unstoppable shot into the net to make it 3-1.

Taarabt went close again for QPR, but Turgott was close to grabbing a fourth, but in the end West Ham saw the game out for an impressive win.

West Ham: Trialist, Spence, McCartney, Tomkins, Ruddock, Moncur, Taylor, Turgott, Bywater, Chamakh, Paulista

Subs: Baxter, Driver, Marlow, Shaw, D.Tombides

QPR: Murphy, Young, Doughty, Derry, Onuoha, Ehmer, Mackie, Granero, Bothroyd, Taarabt, Hoilett.
