Sam Allardyce says he gave his West Ham players a few days off after they beat Tottenham 2-0 in their last home game of the season last Saturday.
The victory at Upton Park made it three wins out of three for the Hammers against Spurs this campaign and ended a dismal run of four consecutive defeats.
Allardyce says he promised his players an extended break if they managed to claim three points against Tim Sherwood’s side, and he reckons they are now well rested and ready for Sunday’s trip to Manchester City.
“It was a little motivation set out by me before the game,” Allardyce said.
“Beat Tottenham and you will have a few days off to spend with your family and get ready for the last game.
“We’d lost four on the trot and I wanted to make sure our last home game was something we could all enjoy and remember.
“It was just a little teaser for the lads because we don’t need any training now. We can’t be any fitter than we are now.
“We can rest and come back in fresh. Our minds are clear, we’re looking forward to the game [against City] and we’re getting ready to plan our tactics against a team that’s looking to win the Barclays Premier League.”
