National Cup wins for football squads
Marshalls Park’s Year 9 squad played extremely well against a strong Globe team to run out 5-4 winners in an exciting National Cup tie.
After conceding an early goal, Park hit back twice to go in in front at half time.
Globe came out fighting and equalised within the first five minutes of the second half, but Park regained the lead through Toby Stutely.
And Globe pegged them back once more, but Stutley struck again six minutes from time to seemingly secure victory.
The visitors squared matters at 4-4 and the tie looked to be heading for extra time when Alfie Cook headed home in the closing seconds to send Park through.
Teacher Paul Aylett said: “I was very proud of the team and especially the performances from Jake Jolliffe, Adam Garson and Alfie Cook.”
The Year 8 squad also made it through to the second round with a win over the Harris Academy from Chafford.
Billy Allen and Charlie Moore (2) put Park 3-0 up, but Harris hit back with a fine header and added another from a corner.
Harris had a chance to level from the penalty spot, after Lewis Scott was adjudged to have fouled a visiting striker.
But Scott redeemed himself with a fine save as Park held on.
Aylett added: “The lads worked very hard and should’ve had the game wrapped up by half-time with all the chances.
“Harris pulled it back and put us under pressure in the last five minutes, Lewis Scott making the save from his mistake to keep us in it.
“It was a good start to the season.”
