Record rainfall ruined January fixtures
After record rainfall this month, local clubs could be faced with more frustration in February.
Figures released this week claimed parts of England had endured their wettest January since records began over a century ago.
Much of southern England saw twice the average rainfall for the first month of the year, leaving pitches waterlogged across Havering.
Hornchurch are due to hold a pitch inspection at 9.30am this morning (Friday) ahead of their Ryman Premier Division clash with Dulwich, while Romford’s Division One North meeting with Ware at Ship Lane could also be in doubt.
Urchins will be hoping their Essex Senior Cup semi-final with Braintree can go ahead, but after a cold, dry weekend more rain is forecast before Tuesday’s tie.
Old Cooperians are scheduled to host fierce rivals Campion in rugby’s London Three North East tomorrow, but the school pitches have yet to stage any matches since the turn of the year.
Hockey and indoor sport should remain unaffected, though, with Hornchurch & Elm Park Boxing Club preparing to stage their first show of 2014 at Chafford Sports Centre tomorrow week (February 8). Entry is £10 adults and £5 concessions.
