FA Cup: Hornchurch 6 Wealdstone 1
Hornchurch took another step closer to the FA Cup first round proper after crushing Ryman Premier Division rivals Wealdstone in their third qualifying round tie tt Bridge Avenue.
A hat-trick from Stefan Payne and further goals by Joey May, George Purcell and Chris Bourne fired Urchins through, leaving them 90 minutes away from a potential meeting with a Football League side.
And a crowd of 506 watched a fiery encounter, in which referee Ian Fissenden produced six yellow cards and one red.
Urchins got the all-important early breakthrough when Payne latched onto a long ball from May in the ninth minute and coolly slotted his shot past Jonathan North in the Stones goal.
Two minutes later, Payne doubled the lead after Wealdstone failed to deal with a May corner.
The ball fell to Payne on the edge of the box and he smashed it into the top corner.
Indiscipline cost Wealdstone heavily as they were reduced to ten men inside 20 minutes.
After fouling Leigh Bremner on the right wing, skipper Sean Cronin then kicked out at the Urchins forward and Fissenden had no choice but to show a straight red card.
Wealdstone seemed to settle into the game following the dismisall, though, with Jey Siva forcing a good save out of Inigo Echepare and Scott McGleish firing just over.
The second half was only 18 seconds old, however, when Payne was tripped in the box and Fissenden pointed to the spot.
Payne stepped up, sealing his hat-trick and the tie by firing into the bottom corner.
May added the fourth after his left-footed shot from the edge of the box took a massive deflection and left North rooted to the spot and helpless to stop the ball trickle into the goal.
Substitute Purcell then made it five in the 65th minute, after tenacious work from Bremner saw the ball fall to the striker who rounded North and tapped into an empty net.
A late sixth by Bourne, with a header at the far post, completed the rout before Stones scored a consolation goal through substitute Jerome Okimo in the last minute.
And with £7,500 prize money added to club coffers, doubling their haul from the FA Cup so far this season, Urchins will now wait for the draw on Monday (10.30am) to see who will stand between them and the first round proper.
Jimmy McFarlane’s men travel to Hemel Hempstead in the FA Trophy next weekend, before their next FA Cup assignment on October 26.
