FA Trophy: Potters Bar 2 Romford 0
Romford were made to pay for two lapses in concentration as they bowed out of the FA Trophy at the first hurdle.
Boro travelled to Hertfordshire on the back of two successive 1-0 wins, over Soham Town in Ryman One North and East Thurrock in the league cup, and saw Aaron Omand called into action on seven minutes to save from Dan Millard.
Reece Tranter, Boro’s midweek matchwinner against the Rocks, tested Ed Thompson at the other end before the home side broke the deadlock on 25 minutes.
A long ball forward found Cole Penny in space on the left and, as Boro switched off, his cross was converted by Josh Hutchinson, who poked past Omand.
Boro felt the hosts should have been reduced to 10 men soon after when Josh Urquhart clashed with Tom Richardson, but the Potters Bar made escaped.
Richardson saw his free-kick gathered by Thompson on 40 minutes before Bar doubled their lead as Hutchinson strolled through to slot past Omand.
Boro applied pressure after the restart, without creating any clear scoring chances, and saw Lewis Francis flash an effort across the face of the goal just before the hour.
Omand denied the home side a third on the counter-attack late on, but it proved a disappointing day for Boro.
Romford: Omand, Ottley, Woodward, Truman, Ishmail, Dicks, Sammut (Norris 63), Tranter (Francis 55), Imbert, Richardson, Long (Hart 63). Unused subs: Ngoy, Goldstone.
