Captain Barry glad for match practice

Romford captain Jack Barry was delighted to get some action as the wet weather ruined another Ryman League weekend.

Boro looked set for more frustration after their home meeting with Division One North basement boys Ware was postponed due to a waterlogged Ship Lane pitch.

But Paul Martin’s men played a hastily-arranged friendly against Essex Senior League side Barking on a 3G pitch at Redbridge Sports Centre.

And it proved a worthwhile exercise as they ran out 5-1 winners.

Barry said: “It was better than training and it gave everybody a run out, so everyone was just happy to play some football.

“The wind was so strong, so the objective was to play football on the floor, which I think we did more in the second half than the first.”

Reece Tranter netted twice, with Dan Jones, Tom Richardson and Nick Reynolds also on target in the success.

Barry added: “They are all happy to get on the scoresheet and hopefully we can play next week.”

Boro are due to host Erith & Belvedere on Wednesday.
