Boss Martin prepares for Thamesmead test

Romford manager Paul Martin says tonight’s game against Thamesmead will be a “massive task.”

The south London side arrive at Ship Lane on the back of nine consecutive victories in Ryman Division One North to a play a Romford team who have only secured one point in their last four games and failed to score a single goal in that time.

Martin said: “They’ve won nine on the spin and their confidence is flying. It’s going to be an uphill task.”

However the Boro manager hopes his team can still get something out of the game, adding: “We have to hope that they show up and are maybe a little too confident, then maybe we can surprise them and just try and get something.”

Martin would not be drawn into predicting a score for tonight’s clash, but said: “I’d love to say it’s going to be three points to Romford, but to be honest I’d just be happy with a point.”

Romford gained their first point in four games with a 0-0 home draw against Cheshunt on Saturday and Martin was encouraged by their performance.

He said: “It was pretty equal and I think we had the better chances. It was good to get a clean sheet and the main priority was just not to get beat again.”

The manager was also happy with the new signings who played in the stalemate, following successive defeats against Wroxham, Witham and Heybridge.

He added: “Chuck [Duru] has played for us before so he knows what we want him to do and Jeffrey Campbell looked lively up front. He was good on the ball and slowed the game down well.”
