Barry asks Boro to bounce back from defeat at Dereham

Romford captain Jack Barry wants his side to put a poor performance at Dereham behind them as they prepare for a Ryman One North derby with Brentwood today.

Boro slipped to a 4-2 defeat in Norfolk on Saturday, despite seeing the home side reduced to 10 men when the scores were level.

Reece Tranter put Paul Martin’s men in front but they needed a Joe Oates penalty just before half time to go into the break on terms after Dereham hit a quickfire double.

Dereham struck twice in seven minutes after the restart to take control, though, and Oates saw red late on for the visitors to ensure a miserable trip home.

Barry said: “It was a very poor game on our behalf. We didn’t even look like winning, even when they went down to 10 men and that is very disappointing because the three points were there to be taken.

“It’s not the first time this season we’ve played against 10 men and haven’t taken all three points.

“We shouldn’t be putting in poor performances like that. We are much better than that.

“We have to focus now on the derby on Monday and you don’t need firing up for a derby game.”

Boro lost 2-1 at Brentwood when the two sides met in early March, but then went on an eight-game winning streak to raise hopes of a top-10 finish and the chance to pass the 70-point mark.

Defeat at Dereham was their fourth in six outings, though, and Barry says they need to rediscover their form.

He added: “We have to perform better and be fired up because if we’re not we will get rolled over and you don’t want to lose any game, let alone a derby.

“I am sure the boys will be fired up because we have two games left, then everyone can have their holidays.

“We have two games to concentrate on first, which we will be doing, and I am positive we won’t let the gaffer down.

“We have been lately and he does a lot for this club so if we can finish strong in these last two games that will be good.”
