Another clean sheet pleases Martin
Romford manager Paul Martin reserved special praise for his defence and also his scout after watching his side secure a comfortable Ryman One North win over Wroxham.
Nick Reynolds scored twice at Ship Lane before Paul Clayton struck late on to seal a 3-0 win as the hosts recorded another clean sheet.
And Martin praised his players for following his tactical instructions after a scouting mission on Wroxham in their game against Barkingside.
“They didn’t really look like threatening us, but we got our tactics right because we watched them,” said Martin.
“If we didn’t have them watched on Monday night it might have been a different game, but we shut them out. We closed them up to stop them playing out from the back and they didn’t know what to do.
“I have to pay my positives to my scout that went and watched them and gave me the little info and the boys responded.
“You win games if you keep clean sheets. My backline has been fantastic since we had that bad run.
“We’ve rotated the back line and I don’t think I’ve kept it the same for 15 games now and we’ve kept nine or eight clean sheets so you’ve got to give all credit to them.”
Reynolds scored his seventh and eighth goals of the season for Romford but he wasn’t at his best in the first half.
He proved the ultimate target man in the second period, though, and Martin was pleased his forward was in the goals again, although felt his side could have won by more.
He added: “Nick sometimes needs a kick up the backside. He has been nicking goals for us, but he has not been performing brilliant, but that isn’t a bad thing.
“We know it could have been four, five, six or seven though.”
Martin also praised young George Woodward, who assisted two of the three goals, adding: “We changed and put George on them because he has got a decent ping on him. He isn’t a regular on set-pieces but obviously we rested a couple of our big boys.
“He was below-par against Brentwood (in a 2-1 defeat), so we left him out on Thursday (the 1-0 win at Walthham Abbey) and he has responded really well so that is another positive for us.”
