Martin pleased for Richardson
The last time Tom Richardson scored a hat-trick for Romford he joined rivals Thurrock the following day.
And that is the worry for manager Paul Martin after the youngster bagged a treble on Wednesday night against Barkingside.
Boro boss Martin admitted that although he is pleased for the player he hopes it doesn’t convince managers to try and take him away again.
“When we say it is great, he scored a hat-trick last year (against Sudbury) and was gone the next game!” said Martin.
“It is a frustrating one, especially playing Wednesdays.
“There will probably be five or six managers up in the stands there going ‘is it worth us going to try and nick him’.
“So it is nice for the boy and I am pleased for him, but the more we do well and players individually have a good game the more chance I’ve got to lose them.”
The youngster scored twice against Hadleigh United in the FA Cup recently before being taken off and Martin revealed that he kept Richardson on against Barkingside as he wasn’t happy to be substituted.
He added: “He has took his goals really well and he deserved it.
“I was going to take him off to rest his legs for the FA Cup (against Grays), but I did it in the FA Cup before.
“I took him off when he was on two goals and he was like ‘can’t I stay on and try get a hat-trick’ so fair play to him.”
