Captain Barry delighted with victory

Romford captain Jack Barry revealed his relief after helping his side to victory over Ryman Division One North rivals Ware at the weekend.

Barry netted the final goal in a 4-1 success at Ship Lane, after a brace from Nick Reynolds either side of a Matt Toms effort.

Boro had lost six of their previous seven matches to slip down the table, but Barry said: “It was a great result, just what we needed and deserved. A result like that was coming.

“They didn’t cause us too much threat in the game and it was good to get back on the scoresheet again after playing in midfield for the second game running.

“Hopefully I can go on and help the team out and get a few more now, but it wasn’t a great game. The pitch was heavy, but we got the job done and now we push on to the next game.”

Boro are scheduled to visit Waltham Abbey tonight, but there is a 1pm pitch inspection at Capershotts.

The match must be in doubt given the recent weather and the unreliability of the surface there.

If they find themselves redundant this evening, Boro are scheduled to travel to Soham Town on Saturday.

They let a two-goal lead slip in a 3-2 defeat when the sides met in October and Barry added: “It’s a shame (if the Abbey fixture is confirmed as being off), but we have to go into Saturday’s game (at Soham Town) full of confidence on the back of a win.

“All the boys will be buzzing to get out there and give a good performance and get a win, after going 2-0 up last time around, then losing 3-2 against them.

“I missed that game due to family reasons, so I’m looking forward to the game and taking three points back with us.”
