Ryman Div 1N: Romford 3 Wroxham 0
A brace from Nick Reynolds helped Romford to all three points against Wroxham at a sunny Ship Lane as the host secured their 13th Ryman One North victory of the season.
And Paul Clayton added a third late on as Boro skipper Jack Barry marked his 175th appearance for the club with an excellent display to help earn his team a clean sheet.
The Yachtsmen started best though, as talented left midfielder Remy Gordon escaped his marker but Atu Ngoy saved well.
Romford made six changes to the team that had defeated Waltham Abbey on Thursday night but one of the men retained grabbed the opening goal with 15 minutes played.
George Woodward’s deliveries were a constant threat all afternoon and his first created Reynolds opener as he bundled the ball home.
It could have been 2-0 two minutes later as Woodward, this time from the right, curled in another set-piece but Barry headed over.
Romford settled down after their goal but needed to stay switched on as Wroxham pushed to equalise.
Tom Richardson nearly doubled the lead after he had created a yard of space, but Robert Juhasz saved before Ryan Imbert missed a good opportunity when through on goal.
Juhasz made an excellent save when Richardson played the ball over the top and Boro captain Barry twice cut back for Reynolds, as on the second occasion the Wroxham stopper brilliantly tipped over.
Wroxham made two changes at the break but Boro doubled their lead as Joe Oates played a measured ball through to Reynolds and the forward, in aches of space, took his time before slotting in at the near post.
Wroxham pressed thereafter but Boro’s defence held firm with James Ishmail and Barry both making vital interventions when called upon and performing superbly throughout.
As the game entered the final quarter of an hour Richardson nearly made the points safe but after surging past two defenders he fired wide.
Then Wroxham sub Tim Cary chested down on the edge of the box before his looping effort hit the bar and bounced over to all but end the visitors chances of mounting a comeback.
Reynolds and Wroxham’s Daniel Self halted play after injuring each other in a challenge and Clayton replaced the Boro man.
And Romford’s record appearance holder didn’t take long to make his mark as he headed in with his first touch following another wonderful Woodward cross to give the hosts three goals and three points.
