I’ll keep rotating, says Romford boss Martin

The old adage of never changing a winning team will not be one followed by Romford boss Paul Martin as his side visit Witham Town tomorrow.

Boro produced a fine display in a 2-0 win over local rivals Aveley at Ship Lane on Wednesday, in their first fixture in a month.

But while the team impressed, such are the options Martin has, he will be making wholesale changes this weekend.

“All the subs and the boys that got left out will play Saturday just to freshen it up. We’ve got nothing to lose,” said Martin.

“I know other managers and fans say you shouldn’t change a winning team, but we have got to give everyone a go.

“The boys sitting on the bench or at home haven’t played for two months as well, so we have got to rotate it. Hopefully the Witham game is on and we can make the changes and go again.”

Romford’s fixture backlog will see them play three times a week on several occasions between now and the end of the Ryman One North season on April 26.

They travel to Waltham Abbey on Tuesday, before hosting Erith & Belverdere on Thursday and despite the number of games to play in such a short space of time, Martin’s 45-point target remains.

“You’re going to have another good and bad run between now and the end of the season, but I want 45 points before I relax,” he said. “We’ve just got to let the boys go and play their football now and see where it takes us.”
