McFarlane prepares for Dulwich test

Hornchurch boss Jimmy McFarlane says his side need to raise their game again as they face Dulwich Hamlet at Bridge Avenue tonight.

Urchins bounced back from the disappointment of losing to Cray Wanderers last Tuesday by beating high-flying Maidstone 1-0 on Saturday.

But if Hornchurch are to come out on top this evening McFarlane believes the performance of his side will need to raise another level from the weekend win.

“I think Dulwich are, taking ourselves out of the equation, the second best side in this league,” said McFarlane.

“They are a fantastic side to watch and we will have to be another notch up on our performance (from Maidstone).

“If we defend like we did at the weekend then it will be a tight, clinical game.”

Hornchurch’s defence was outstanding at the weekend and has been consistently excellent for most of the season.

McFarlane believes his back line will have to be at their best tonight, but he also wonders if some tinkering to his formation will prove profitable.

He added: “I’ll have think about it. Formations shouldn’t really make a difference at this level, but sometimes it does against the better sides.

“The way we lined up against Maidstone caused them problems in the first half and they didn’t really know how to handle us.

“We have had a few little blips in defence but I don’t normally have to worry about that, it is other areas so we will see.”
