Urchins to host FA Cup rivals
Hornchurch were handed a plum home tie against Conference side Hereford in the final qualifying round of the FA Cup when the draw was made on talksport radio this morning.
Urchins fans will be hoping for a giantkilling to reach the first round proper, but Hereford have a proud history of their own, having famously knocked out Newcastle in the 1970s.
Hornchurch romped to a 6-1 win over Ryman Premier Division rivals Wealdstone in the third qualifying round on Saturday, with Stefan Payne’s hat-trick leading the way.
Joey May, George Purcell and Chris Bourne were also on target at Bridge Avenue as Jimmy McFarlane’s men banked £7,500 in prize money against Gordon Bartlett’s Stones, who had captain Sean Cronin sent off in the 18th minute for kicking out at Leigh Bremner.
Urchins turn their attentions to the FA Trophy next, as they visit Hemel Hempstead on Saturday. But then all eyes will be on October 26 as they welcome the Bulls to Bridge Avenue.
