Ryman Premier: Margate 1 Hornchurch 2
Ade Yusuff’s injury-time goal earned Hornchurch all three points at Margate last night.
Beaten at home by Lewes on the opening day of the new season, Urchins saw Rickie Hayles head over from a free-kick on 16 minutes.
But the visitors broke the deadlock soon after when Chris Bourne was fouled in the box and Carl Rook drilled home from the spot.
Joey May went close to adding a second before Elliot Styles produced a superb block to deny Margate on the stroke of half-time.
George Purcell fired wide early in the second half and the home side got back on terms on the hour when captain John Beales headed home from a corner.
Bourne fired another chance wide for Jimmy McFarlane’s men, but they had Inigo Echepare to thank for a fine save 13 minutes from time.
Urchins were given a great chance to secure all three points when they were awarded their second penalty of the night on 84 minutes, but Rook saw his effort saved.
Yusuff sent a header wide at the end of normal time and it looked like the spoils would be shared, but he swept home a winner in stoppage time to ensure a happy trip home to Bridge Avenue.
Hornchurch: Echepare, Coyne, Bentley, Hayles, Styles, Starkey, Duncan (Spencer 87), May (Curley 72), Rook, Purcell (Yusuff 71), Bourne.
Hull City manager Steve Bruce believes that Arsenal have the ability to win the league this season.
