Ryman Premier: Kingstonian 1 Hornchurch 1
Hornchurch had to settle for a point as defences dominated at Kingsmeadow.
Urchins travelled to west London in good spirits, following their 5-1 midweek romp at Lewes.
And they almost took a second-minute lead as Elliot Styles headed just wide from a Joey May free kick.
Stefan Payne also went close before the visitors opened the scoring on 13 minutes.
Tambeson Eyong’s lengthy run on the right and cross found George Purcell, who was tripped in the box when about to shoot as referee Adrian Waters pointed to the spot.
Purcell picked himself up to convert the penalty and fired a free kick wide soon after.
Rob Tolfrey denied May with a good save before K’s had the ball in the back of Inigo Echepare’s net just before half time, only to see a flag up for offside.
Styles cleared off the line to deny the hosts within a minute of the restart and the impressive Frankie Curley joined teammate Eyong in the book for a foul, before Andre Da Costa sent his free kick wide.
Kingstonian got back on terms just before the hour, though, when Dave Rainford was adjudged to have fouled a home player in the box, receiving a yellow card, and Ryan Moss converted from 12 yards.
Payne was thwarted by a fine Sam Page tackle, after being played in by Purcell moments later, and K’s went close when Josh Casey broke through to force an excellent save from Spaniard Echepare.
The Urchins goal came under pressure from successive corners, but substitute Billy Coyne caused problems at the other end with his long throws and Rainford went close with a late free kick as it ended all square.
Urchins remain in fifth place and welcome lowly Cray to Bridge Avenue on Tuesday.
