Hornchurch make the short trip to rivals Billericay Town in the Ryman League Cup tonight but manager Jimmy McFarlane has understandably said Saturday’s FA Cup game against Wealdstone is the more important tie this week.
Urchins travel to New Lodge looking to extend their unbeaten run to 16 matches and make it seven consecutive wins in all competitions.
However, it will be some of McFarlane’s squad players who will have to keep the run going as some senior players might be rested.
McFarlane added: “I’ve got an FA Cup game on Saturday, that is bigger than the League Cup.
“I’ll be giving all the squad players a game and trying to protect the ones that will be playing on Saturday.”
One of the players who is predicted to start this evening is George Purcell.
He is certainly not a squad player with eight goals already this year but his recent injury struggles have limited his playing time.
Hornchurch boss McFarlane stated that Purcell will play a big part against Billericay and also revealed that he only has one injury worry.
“Martin Tuohy is the only one now,” said McFarlane.
“He has been doing a bit of running but has had a weeks rest because it swelled up a bit. He is the only one but he is still way off.
“George is now available for selection. I didn’t want to start him against Grays because his hamstring is a fatigue injury.
“He needs to get his sharpness so he may play a bigger part against Billericay.”
