Hornchurch manager Jimmy McFarlane hopes to have most of his team for 2014/15 finalised in the near future.

Urchins season only ended on May 5, but McFarlane has been busy arranging plans ahead of the new Ryman Premier campaign.

Although the club plan to announce their retained list soon, the Hornchurch boss admits a lot can change between now and the start of the season.

He said: “When you see clubs say these players are retained – and I have seen Margate and Maidstone have done a few – they are the ones they have put on contract.

“We can’t sign players on forms until the forms come out. All we can do is agree that they are coming back.

“In the meantime someone might come in and offer them another £100-a-week and because they have only signed a Ryman form it doesn’t mean nothing at all.

“I spoke to most of the boys before the end of the season and I have got a few key ones to tie down, but it is going ok.

“My aim is to get it all done and dusted by next Friday and anything else that comes along we can be a bit choosy and picky.”

McFarlane admits the season never truly stops for himself and those working behind the scenes at Bridge Avenue.

He is now trying to ‘sell’ the club to new players but revealed they cannot compete financially with other sides in the league.

He added: “The out of season for someone like me and most managers is sometimes the most busiest time.

“We pay decent money but we are not the biggest payers and you have to sell the club to certain players.

“A few players I have spoken to have said ‘thanks for the offer, I’d love to come but this team is paying X amount’. These are in the same league and it is a lot more than we can offer.”

Rickie Hayles, Tambeson Eyong and Michael Spencer will not be among those offered new terms after being released this week.

The club revealed Hayles and Eyong had played for a Sunday League team the day before the Ryman Premier play-off final at Lowestoft, while Spencer is believed to have featured regularly for a Sunday League team throughout the year. See inside for more.
