McFarlane: We’re desperate to play

Hornchurch boss Jimmy McFarlane is hoping that midweek work on the Bridge Avenue pitch will pay dividends by allowing their Conference South game against Tonbridge to take place tomorrow (Saturday).

The Urchins manager was disappointed to see away games at Chelmsford and Dover postponed over the course of the past week due to the freezing weather.

But there have been major efforts to clear Hornchurch Stadium of snow in a bid to get this weekend’s game on.

And McFarlane is keeping his fingers crossed they will not be in vain.

He said: “We’ve been over to the ground twice this week with a work party to try and clear the snow.

“Temperatures are rising so we can only hope that prospects improve.

“It’s in the hands of the gods, but we’re desperate to get the game on — for football reasons as well as financial ones.

“Our form has not been bad and the confidence is good at the moment.

“If you’ve lost a few games, you don’t mind a few postponements because it gives you time to regroup.

“But when things are going well, you want the games to come thick and fast.”
