McFarlane: We’re a match for most sides

Jimmy McFarlane believes Hornchurch’s “greatest week of the season” will give them the confidence to secure their spot for next season, which will be his greatest achievement in management.

Urchins followed their win over Bath with a demolition of Essex rivals Chelmsford ad despite the ecstasy of winning the Ryman Premier play-offs last season, boss McFarlane says the latest win gave him the greatest satisfaction of his career.

“It was certainly the most satisfying win,” he said. “I know people will point out the play-offs last year to me but this result gives me the most satisfaction.

“I’ve been in the managerial game now for three years and if we can stay up this year it will be my greatest achievement at this football club.

“This level is tough but we have been more than a match for most sides on our day.

“The table doesn’t lie though and we are where we are because we have been naïve at times and made some mistakes.”

Urchins go to Dorchester tomorrow (Saturday) on a high and McFarlane said: “If we play like we did on Wednesday we could win every game between now and the end of the season.

“But we can’t afford to rest on our laurels and it’d be foolish of us to get too carried away.”

Defender Reiss Noel will have an MRI scan today in the hope of returning before the end of the season after picking up a back injury at Farnborough.
