If Romford’s game with Erith & Belvedere had been arranged for Tuesday night, it might have beaten the weather.

Instead, yesterday (Wednesday) saw another Ship Lane postponement - and the frustration goes on for the Boro’s boss Paul Martin.

He said: “You have to let the FA know 72 hours before a game if you want to change and there are a lot of logistical issues, especially when you’re ground-sharing.

“We’re going to end up playing three games in a week on occasion’s if the postponements carry on like this.

“It will be an effort to get the season finished but we’ve got a big enough squad so we can cope with the fixture build-up.”

Romford have played only half of their 46 Ryman One North games - only Witham Town have played that few.

But there is a chink of light at the end of the tunnel. Saturday’s opponents Soham Town Rangers have been hit by relatively few home postponements.

And Martin says his players are ‘itching to play games.’

“Soham seem to have done alright up there in Cambridgeshire and they’ll want to get the game on because they’re doing really well,” he added.

“Hopefully it will be a good game. The squad is at full strength and I’m having to leave three or four players out every game.”

The Boro, who are 18th in Ryman One North, did fit in a 3G friendly against Barking last Saturday, which they won 5-1, to keep their fitness ticking over.

But the lack of competitive action is making it difficult to prepare training schedules for the players.

Martin said: “It’s annoying because we trained on Monday to prepare for Erith and Belvedere but you can’t go too hard on the players, you have to think about their condition.

“You can’t control the weather.”
